From Chris Kunkel, our 2009-2010 BICS President: Welcome to our 47th Season!
I hope you are having a good summer and are making plans to sing with us this fall. We are looking forward to rehearsals
which begin Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Calder Baptist Church in Beaumont. (Note- rehearsals start earlier this year - 2:00pm)
The BICS Board has been busy since our last concert, and I am happy to announce the following:

Date: Sunday, Nov.15, 2008- 3:00pm First United Methodist Church, Downtown Beaumont
We
are excited about this season's plans and are looking forward to your participation. If you are unable to come to early
registration on July 18, registration will also be at 1:30pm prior to our August 16 and 23 rehearsals. Please
consider inviting a friend to share in this wonderful experience of making beautiful music. This will indeed be a very
exciting and wonderful season that you will not want to miss!
Attention Ladies: BICS
mail orders the ladies' performance attire, which must be purchased at time of registration. We encourage ladies who need
dresses to pre-register and order dresses in July! Your cost for the dress is $49 (an additional $20 is subsidized by
the BICS Board of Directors). This amount is due at registration along with payment for your music and dues.
New members needing different payment arrangements should contact Chris Kunkel (409-833-5792) before the first rehearsal.
USHERS: Ushers are needed for the Concert in November. If you know
someone who would like to volunteer to be an usher, please see House Chair Bernie Brown.

Dr. L. Randolph Babin 2009 Concert Conductor
L.
Randolph Babin retired from Lamar University, Beaumont, in
2005, with thirty-eight years of full time teaching. During that time he served as Chair of the Department of Music, Theatre,
and Dance (2000-2005) and Director of Choral Activities (1981-2001). In May of 1995, he was awarded the title, Regents’’
Professor of Music, in recognition of his distinguished teaching.
Dr. Babin has conducted the Beaumont Interfaith Choral Society on numerous occasions.
He directed the Symphony of Southeast Texas Chorus from its inception in 2000 through the performance of Carl Orff’s
Carmina Burana in April of 2003. He has also directed the St. Jude Chorale, St. Jude Catholic Church in Beaumont,
since 1980. Dr. Babin is an active clinician in the state of Texas where he has conducted numerous workshops, clinics, and
All-Region Choirs. He is also an active composer of sacred choral music published by GIA Publications.
A native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Dr. Babin received the
degrees; Bachelor of Music Education (1965), Master of Music Education (1968), and Doctor of Philosophy (1987) from Louisiana
State University where he studied voice and choral conducting with Dallas Draper and instrumental conducting with L. Bruce
Jones. Whereas his primary accomplishments have been in choral music, he has had considerable experience in opera, musical
theater, and instrumental music. He served as Music Director/Conductor of the Beaumont Civic Opera from 1976 to 2000, and
has guest conducted the Lake Charles Symphony Orchestra and the Beaumont Symphony Orchestra on several occasions. In December,
2007, he conducted a performance of Handel's Messiah with the Symphony of Southeast Texas.
